Obama addresses AIPAC, calls
for 1967 borders with land swaps

In a speech before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Sunday, President Obama said that the US "believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine... The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states..."

Obama also stated he was against a unilateral approach to creating a Palestinian state via the UN.

In the wake of yet more terrible storms, this time in the Midwest, the President called Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to personally extend his condolences and to tell all of the families of Joplin affected by the severe tornadoes that they are in his thoughts and prayers.

President Obama to shorten trip to Ireland

A dense ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano blew toward Scotland on Monday, causing airlines to cancel flights, forcing President Barack Obama to shorten a visit to Ireland, and raising fears of a repeat of last year's huge travel disruptions in Europe that stranded millions of passengers.

Nearly 50 tornado reports in central US on Sunday

The fourth major outbreak of the season continued on Sunday as the total number of tornado
reports was near 50. Major tornadoes occurred in Joplin, MO and Minneapolis.

National Weather Service Director Jack Hayes said the storm was given a preliminary label as an EF4 — the second-highest rating given to twisters. The rating is assigned to storms based on the damage they cause. Hayes said the storm had winds of 190 to 198 mph. At times, it was three-quarters of a mile wide.

Netanyahu offers condolences for tornadoes in speech at AIPAC

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened his AIPAC speech on May 23, 2011, by offering condolences on the recent tornadoes and flooding in America.

Netanyahu stated, "My friends, before I talk about things about Israel, I want to say something about the scenes on television that I saw today and you have been seeing as well. When tragedy strikes America, Israel... Israel feels an immediate identification; and tragedy has struck America. In recent days, floods and tornadoes have claimed the lives of hundreds of Americans, including today in Joplin, Missouri. All I can say is, America, we're with you! On this day, on every day!"

Netanyahu under U.S. pressure:
Some settlements will end up beyond Israel’s borders

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday for the first time acknowledged that some settlements would end up beyond Israel’s borders in any peace deal and hinted at a softening of his line on Jerusalem, during a landmark address to the US Congress.

Though he declared that “Jerusalem must remain the united capital of Israel,” he added that “I believe with creativity and goodwill a solution can be found.”

"Thunderstorms are exploding across western Oklahoma!"

Severe thunderstorms are exploding across Oklahoma and Kansas this evening. A Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado watch has been issued for southern Kansas and northern Texas.

In western and southern Kansas, several supercell thunderstorms have developed with a significant threat for tornadoes, damaging winds and hail. Severe storms are currently approaching Wichita.

A large tornado was reported on the ground near Hinton and is tracking north of Oklahoma City, with another one to the south affecting Chickasha and is tracking past Newcastle and Moore and headed toward Northwest Norman.

AccuWeather.com Meteorologists are forecasting that there will be at least 50 tornado reports on Tuesday, many of them across the eastern half of Oklahoma and eastern Kansas. The greatest threat of tornadic activity on Tuesday lies in the corridor from Oklahoma City, Okla., to Wichita, Kan., to already hard-hit Joplin, Mo.

"Deadly tornadoes tracked across Oklahoma"

Tornadoes continued to rampage across parts of eastern Oklahoma and northern Texas on Tuesday evening before barging into Missouri and Arkansas overnight. Many large tornadoes tracked across the southern Plains on Tuesday evening with damage reported in many areas.

According to the Associated Press, at least 13 people have been killed by tornadoes and many more are missing. The tornadoes ripped through Kansas and central Oklahoma on Tuesday evening. On Tuesday night, the violent thunderstorms shifted eastward into Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa.

There were 35 reports of tornadoes from this outbreak of severe weather as of 5:30 a.m. CDT.

Biggest storm system in years hits Dallas-Fort Worth

Reports of large hail, damaging winds and minor to moderate structural damage were trickling into the National Weather Service Fort Worth office early this morning after three rounds of storms swept through North Texas on Tuesday night.

At least one tornado was spotted in Denton, and 70 mph wind gusts were recorded in the Loop 820 and U.S. 377 area, while Arlington spotters reported wind gusts of up to 75 mph.

Penny- to softball-size hailstones rained down on Tarrant County from east of Eagle Mountain Lake to the Bedford area, the weather service reported.

American Airlines Cancels 20% of Daily Flights as Hailstorms Batter Aircraft, about 10,000 stranded at DFW Airport overnight

American Airlines and American Eagle canceled 707 flights, or 20 percent of their daily schedule, and pulled 89 planes from service after hail battered the carriers’ biggest hub and storms raked across the central U.S.

The cancellations included 326 flights into and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport today as repairs began, and the AMR Corp. (AMR) units are scrapping 188 flights for tomorrow. Getting all the aircraft back in service may take several days, Tim Smith, a spokesman, said in an interview.

Winds of almost 70 miles (113 kilometers) per hour and hail as large as 4.25 inches (11 centimeters) in diameter were reported as storms moved through Dallas-Fort Worth last night, according to the National Weather Service. About 10,000 people were stranded overnight at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, said David Magana, a spokesman for the facility.

Tornadoes continued to rampage across parts of eastern Oklahoma and northern Texas Tuesday night, and the death toll from the outbreak is expected to rise. At least seven people have been killed by tornadoes and many more are missing as the tornadoes ripped through Kansas and central Oklahoma Tuesday evening. Another day of tornadoes is predicted Wednesday, including in the more populated areas of the Mississippi and Ohio valleys.
