The Jerusalem Bombing and the President's Stem Cell Decision - Bill Koenig

Note from Bill:
Today could prove to be a very significant day. We have had another tragic suicide bombing in Jerusalem, which could very likely ignite a war in Israel and possibly in the Middle East. Then tonight U.S. President George W. Bush will address the nation with his decision on stem cell research.
Echoing a statement released earlier by U.S. President George W. Bush, U.S.
Secretary of State Colin Powell said in Washington that the United States was
doing "everything we can" to help bring peace to the region, but that peace
could only be brought about by the Palestinians and Israelis.
"We have a way out of this crisis. It's called the Mitchell plan," Powell told
reporters. "I'm pleased that Chairman Arafat condemned the violence, but now
he has to find those responsible and bring them to justice .... This is a very
dangerous situation, and it's not going to be solved except by the parties in the region."
On President Bush's stem-cell decision, it was stated in a CNN article today that some people expect the President's decision to look very much like a proposal forwarded by Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, a nationally known heart-and-lung transplant surgeon and key Bush health care ally in the Senate. Last month, Frist endorsed federal funding for limited embryonic stem cell research. Frist's proposal would ban the creation of embryos for research purposes and limit research to stem cells derived from fertility clinics that would otherwise be discarded.
Is the Frist plan a safe political compromise? I hope and pray the President doesn’t make this decision. This isn’t or should not be considered a political decision. It is a moral decision based on the Word of God. If President Bush decides to go with the Frist plan there could be huge national repercussions. And then to have the decision happen on the same day of the Jerusalem bombing and the likelihood of Israel “the apple of God’s eye” going to war could be very significant. In John McTernan's book, “God’s Final Warning to America,” there are three key areas that the Lord responds to forcefully.
When Israel is asked or forced to give up her land.
When pro-abortion legislation becomes law, or when major pro-abortion events take place.
When pro-gay legislation becomes law, or when major pro-gay events take place.
The United States is responsible for Israel being at the brink of war and continues to call for a cease-fire and the implementation of the Mitchell Plan, a "land for peace" plan.
And tonight the President of the United States will make an enormous decision having to do with human embryos.
This day could become a very significant moment in history.
