Last night’s appreciation reception at Blair House was a powerful display of solidarity — a gathering of Jewish and Christian supporters of the State of Israel, convened by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. I had the pleasure of attending and was fully blessed by the evening.
The evening began at 7:00 p.m., hosted at the historic Blair House, directly across from the White House — the official guest residence for visiting heads of state. The atmosphere was one of thankfulness.
Netanyahu addressed the assembly with strong words of appreciation, not only for the enduring support of the Christian community but also for key American allies who have stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel in times of conflict and challenge.
One of the highlights of the evening was Netanyahu’s personal tribute to General Michael "Erik" Kurilla, the head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), who has been a formidable partner in Israel’s regional security efforts — especially in the face of escalating threats from Iran. General Kurilla, widely respected in both American and Israeli defense circles, was presented with a symbolic gift from Netanyahu in appreciation of his commitment, friendship and support of Operation Roaring Lion. The prime minister’s words underscored the vital U.S.-Israel military alliance and CENTCOM’s unwavering support for Israel's sovereignty and security.
While the event began indoors at 7 pm, a dramatic weather incident unfolded outside — and not far from another symbolic residence at the same time. On the return drive from the reception, my Lyft driver, a very nice Muslim man, mentioned that he had been at the Islamic Center on Massachusetts Avenue. He described the scene as a powerful and localized microburst storm that struck that area of northwest Washington. Trees bent violently under intense winds, and notably, a large tree snapped and fell right near former President Obama’s residence — which is just north of the Islamic Center - damaging a nearby vehicle. The driver expressed awe at the sudden force of the storm.
The timing is striking. As Netanyahu honored allies and expressed gratitude for those who stand with Israel at Blair House — the storm’s violent epicenter passed near a home symbolically tied to one of the central architects of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and a frequent advocate for the Palestinian cause.
For those who pay attention to patterns — especially in moments involving Israel — this did not go unnoticed.
The reception concluded with strong fellowship among Jewish and Christian attendees, a tangible reminder of the biblical and geopolitical stakes of this moment. The storm may have passed through D.C. quickly, but the significance remains.

The Capital Gripped by Darkness and Storm
By the time the storm reached the heart of Washington D.C., live feeds from prominent locations including the White House began to reflect the gravity of the unfolding situation. Visibility outside had dropped to nearly zero as sheets of torrential rain pelted the city’s buildings and streets. Flash flooding began to emerge in low-lying areas, and wind gusts made movement hazardous.
Eyewitness accounts from across the city and surrounding suburbs described a chaotic scene. Trees were seen swaying violently, with branches snapping off and debris swirling through the air. The distinct roaring noise often reported before the touchdown of a tornado had reportedly been heard by some residents in northeast Washington and the Takoma neighborhood.
The impact of the storm was not limited to residential areas. National landmarks and government buildings in downtown Washington were also engulfed by the deluge. The White House, the Capitol Building, and the National Mall were all subjected to the heavy rains and wind gusts.
