Betrayal
By Jim Fletcher
I don’t think it’s possible this week to write about anything other than the kooky Iran “deal” that the Trump administration has—incredibly—brought about.
Do you?
On Facebook today, Israeli writer Barry Shaw made this observation:
“Israel is not helpless in this contest, but the latest developments appear to suggest that it will need to rely on its own capacities and abilities rather than act with allies, in the next chapter of the long war that is now unfolding.”
Interestingly, some are openly talking about God being Israel’s only hope. This of course affirms many biblical prophecies. (I would caution us about being dogmatic that this will lead quickly to Gog-Magog.)
The world is stunned by this “deal,” and many are wondering mightily…why? The Memorandum is being leaked, by Bloomberg and others, and the short document is as dreadful as we’ve heard. Iran gives up virtually nothing—“promising” to not pursue nuclear weapons—while a $300 billion “rebuilding fund” has been promised. At the same time, the White House and specifically the vice president is claiming this is Fake News. However, my view is that the report is true, but the White House is parsing language. They know people are angry.
Briefly summing up the past 47 years, Iran is the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world. The ideologically driven Islamist terror front has murdered thousands, including many Americans, while consistently and publicly shouting “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!” The mullahs remain in charge and sinister.
That’s why Trump’s about-face on so many issues relating to Iran is so bizarre. Truly dumbfounding. So much so that staunch supporters like Mark Levin are openly asking questions.
The Memorandum is really a 60-day continuation of the “ceasefire.” No one on the planet believes Iran will commit to even one demand by the West. Which again makes Western appeasement of these thugs so frustrating. Both the President and VP are singing the praises of the mullahs. Trump said this week that they are reasonable people. Vance swears all is in order. His recollections of history (World War 2 was decided by “negotiations”—not two atom bombs dropped on Japan) are stupefying. He’s an educated man, which tells me that he is being disingenuous. I call them like I see them.
Needless to say, Trump’s arbitrary deal leaves Israel totally out of the loop. The Israelis asked to see the document before its release and were refused. Also, incredibly, Trump allowed Iran to demand an end to Israel’s defensive actions in Lebanon.
But here is an important point. We really don’t know what Trump is thinking, but I predict Israel will not comply with the Lebanon demand. Specifically, they will not withdraw south of the Litani River. And if Hezbollah continues drone attacks and attempts at border infiltration, Bibi Netanyahu will tell the IDF to act accordingly. Remember this: no matter what comes out of this horrendous deal, Israel will protect herself. This has been her historic position. Believe me when I tell you that no Israeli leader could trust an American president since LBJ.
Added to this freakshow is Trump’s public declaration that without him, there would be no Israel. What??? I say this as a MAGA supporter and ‘til now, enthusiastic supporter of the President. This epic ego (truly, megalomania) claims Israel would cease to exist without human intervention. That is outrageous and totally false. It is Fake News on a cosmic scale.
The Lord of History upholds Israel and has ensured they will survive into eternity. That makes any other view unconscionable and grotesque.
Netanyahu has already come out publicly in defiance. He has pledged that Iran will not have a nuke on his watch. He has in effect called out the White House. Also important to note, true Israel supporters Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth are mostly silent on this abortion-of-a-deal.
When we are confronted by a huge bully, but find the inner strength to defy him, even if means losses in the short-term, we can sleep at night. It looks right now that Israel is in a precarious position (and is, humanly speaking), but sticking to your principles helps you sleep at night. Trust God, not man.
Take one thing to the bank: you cannot trust Arab states—none of them. Captured documents from the Gaza Strip tell us that Hamas attacked on October 7 in part to derail the so-called Abraham Accords. But notice that all the Arab states afraid of Iran have gone wobbly since Trump refused to take-out the regime in Tehran. The Abraham Accords aren’t worth the paper their printed on, either.
We are witnessing an amazing thing, an astonishing prophecy being fulfilled. Jeremiah and Zechariah declared that one day, Israel would stand totally alone in the world. She would only be rescued by her Creator. We are at least seeing how this will come about one day. We don’t know exactly when, but it will happen. Honestly, I did not think I’d be here to see it. Very, very honestly? I was taught in the 70s and 80s that the Rapture would get us out of here before any of this happened. This is the main reminder that you must only pay attention to Scripture itself.
We are living in momentous times.
That Israel has been betrayed by the friendliest American government in history is exceedingly sobering.
It is epic.
