A political graveyard
By Jim Fletcher
By now (meaning, after many decades), we should all clearly understand that relying on polls is folly. Somehow, the Left has conned the populace forever regarding the accuracy of polls.
I can even remember back in the “normal” days when, for example, a network anchor would claim that one presidential candidate was surging ahead…when voting stations on the West Coast were nowhere near closed. Of course, that didn’t hurt Ronald Reagan’s chances, but in many races, this was election interference. Yet few said so.
Since 2016, only a soft-minded person would not see the obvious. Remember on Election morning in 2016, it was claimed that Donald Trump only had a 15 percent chance to win. Then by the evening, he won Florida. He won Ohio. Et cetera. All those polls were lies, designed to help push the degenerate Hillary Clinton over the finish line.
In 2024, it was more rigged. Kamala Harris is an historic clown politically. She never had a snowball’s chance to win over Trump. But we were told it was razor-thin to the finish line.
Trump won in a landslide.
This is not to say there aren’t stupid people in the country.
The same situation exists in Israel.
Yesterday, we heard that Benjamin Netanyahu’s political career was finally over, at age 77.
Then came the results late in the evening. At worst, his Likud Party is the largest in the Knesset. It will take perhaps a few days to sort it all out. But the amateurish “competition” to Bibi will be footnotes in history. Netanyahu meanwhile is a Churchill-type figure.
One of the better analysts is Hananya Naftali. He posted this today on Facebook:
“BREAKING: Benjamin Netanyahu has once again defied the polls, with Likud emerging as Israel’s largest party and his right-wing bloc leading the election count.
“After months of predictions about his political downfall, Netanyahu has proven that he remains a major force in Israeli politics. Final results are still pending. What do you think about this?”
The main headline from The Times of Israel:
With 85% of ballots counted, Likud-led bloc at 53 seats, Eisenkot-led bloc at 48, Arab parties at 19; Herzog calls for ‘open mind’ in coalition talks
Other sources report that Likud will have the threshold of seats, 61, to form a government.
(By the way, one of the many amazing things people don’t know about Israel is that the seat of government for Israel, the Knesset, has 120 members. That is the same number as the government-in-exile in Babylon 2,500 years ago. Truly, modern Israel is permanently tied to its past and future.)
“President Isaac Herzog urges Israel’s political parties to do everything possible to avoid another round of elections, in his first public comments since yesterday’s election, which has left no clear path to either bloc forming a government.
“Herzog says he expects to receive the official election results next week from Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, after which he’ll start consultations with each Knesset faction over the formation of a new government.”
Herzog can do everything possible to avoid new elections by seating Netanyahu’s government.
In the meantime, Israel will survive forever, far apart from politics. The Lord of History will see to it.
