We had to take our car back to the dealership. Again, we had no idea what was happening to the car. We went to the same dealership we had taken it to three weeks earlier.
The last time we were there, the Lord saved the soul of one of the mechanics. I had it in my heart, though, that God wanted to save the soul of the head mechanic too. This stayed on my heart for some time. The last time we were there, I could not get to him. But I knew in my heart that Jesus was after his soul. I simply couldn’t find the opportunity to talk with him, because he worked very fast and spoke quickly. Though I waited, there was never an opportunity to witness to him.
Now, here we were again. This time he was the one who took charge in helping us. He worked, moved, and spoke quickly. I simply could not get a word in. So, I prayed, “God, I know that You want him to know Your Son in order to have salvation in Him. Help me, Holy Spirit. Help me, Jesus.”
The man came by to tell us what was wrong with the car and that it was “weird.”
My husband and I looked at each other. The mechanic explained further what had to be done to fix the car. I didn’t get an opportunity to say anything. As we waited for the car to be serviced, I continued to pray and waited for the opportunity to tell him about Jesus.
The man came out from the service area again to explain further about the car. Finally, I decided to be bold and interject into the conversation. He spoke with an accent, so I asked him where he was from. He said that he was from Poland. I asked him if he had family here. He said that he had married a woman from El Salvador and had three sons and a daughter. I asked him if he had photos of them. He said, “Of course!” He took out his iPhone and began to briefly tell about his life, wife, and children. As we listened, I asked the Lord to help me bring up the subject of God.
Finally, I took courage and said, “You have been given a blessed life. There is one thing that you must take notice of. It is because God loves you so much that He is watching over you and your family, so that you will turn to Him and acknowledge Him as the One who has given you this wonderful life and family.” I told him about Jesus, our sin, and His cross.
This opened his heart to tell us about the religious practices in Poland. He said that it was not like here. He said, “My wife, actually, has been encouraging me to go to church, and I have been going.” Then he told us of the church where they were going. It happened to be our church! We told him that it was the same church that we attend. Now we had common ground! He said that he loved listening to the pastor. Our pastor is a Jew. The church is a Bible church. He continued, “I listen to him because he is a man like me who lives out a real life like we who are married and have children. He is real about life. I respect that more than a religious man, as in our country.”
He started to leave. I quickly and gently took his arm. I had to be bolder. I said, “Wait, do you not want to know the God who loves you?” He knelt down to speak to me because we were sitting. He looked straight into my eyes. Really, I didn’t know what to say, but I tried. I continued, “You have a decision to make. This decision is greater than that of choosing and caring for a wife, children, and working. You must decide where you want to go when you are no longer on this earth.”
He said, “I do believe there is something to this.” He started to leave again. I said, “Wait, you must make that decision now. God did not bring us here just to get the car repaired. He brought us here to tell you about Him.” He knelt down again. He looked into my eyes again. I took more courage. “Let’s pray.” He bowed his head, and we prayed. He received Jesus as his Savior, repented of his sins, and gave his life to Him for His glory.
After we prayed, his face glowed with joy. He smiled and just stood there engulfed in the presence of the Lord, as the Spirit filled him with Jesus. He said, “I needed to do this.” I responded, “Now you will be in heaven.” We rejoiced with him. I then said, “Go and tell your wife.” He said, “I am going to do that!” I assured him, “Now the same God who is in the pastor to whom you have been listening is in you too.”
He shook my hand and thanked me! God’s work was done! I knew all along that God was after his soul, but I never thought that He would take us there again. And because of the mechanic’s fast moving and talking, I just didn’t think that I could even get to a place to tell him about Jesus!
“Abba, Father, the cross of Your Son is so powerful that no one can resist Your love.”
“Jesus, You pursue souls with such a profound love that you cause me to pursue souls for You! Who can resist YOU?”
“Holy Spirit, the power of God’s love and Jesus’s cross is given by You inside of us to tell about salvation. Help us to open our mouths and let God fill it!”
